While braces work to straighten your teeth, there are a few things to be aware of. You need to be extra careful over the foods you eat, otherwise you might break the braces.
So what foods will do a number on your braces? Foods that are typically sticky, hard or chewy will not bode well for your braces. Another way to look at your food choices is that if you have to bite into it, it will probably ruin your braces.
Some of these foods are not really necessary for our health. This list can include hard candy, caramel, gum, pretzels and popcorn. While they taste good, they can sabotage the braces and set back your efforts for a straight smile.
Other options are actually better for our health, but they can still mess with the braces if you are not careful. Corn on the cob, rib meat, apples, pears and carrots are among this category.
While it is not a good idea to take a big bite out of any apples or rib meat, that does not mean you cannot enjoy them, necessarily. You can cut apples, rib meat and other kinds of food into smaller bits so they do not pose a problem.
